The Milwaukee District Golf Association organizes inter-club District Matches throughout the season. District Matches are a long-standing team competition among private clubs across the Milwaukee area.

Participating clubs compete in Red and White divisions, with matches hosted at clubs throughout the district.

Each match features six players from each club competing in individual and best-ball match play.

The season concludes with the annual Wind Up and Championship Match.

Wind Up

Thursday, September 17

Host Site: The Wisconsin Country Club

The Championship Match

12:00 PM — 1st Tee
  • The two teams with the best record from each division will enter the finals.
  • Six players represent each team and compete in order of handicap.
  • To be eligible, a player must have competed in at least one regular team match.
  • Format: an individual 3-point match played head-to-head simultaneously.
  • Tee off in reverse order of handicap.
  • A grand total of 54 points can be won by a team.
Tiebreaker:
  • If teams are tied, compare the 6 head-to-head scorecards (front / back / total point) for players 1–6.
  • If still tied, the team with the most points on the back nine in the head-to-head comparison wins.
  • If still tied, the team with the best won/loss record in regulation play is champion.

Yellow Ball

12:30 PM — Shotgun
  • Limited to 8 players per club (two teams of four).

Yellow Ball Plus One — Format, Strategy & Scoring

  • Only the yellow ball plus the low net of the other three balls count each hole.
  • Two players use the yellow ball on five holes each; two players use it on four holes each.
  • Handicap strategy matters — consider assigning the yellow ball to the player best suited for the hole difficulty / stroke allocation.
  • On tough holes where nobody gets strokes (e.g., a hard par 3), the low handicap player may be best on the yellow ball.
  • The yellow ball must be used when it is your turn to play.

Special Rules

  • If the yellow ball is lost, out of bounds, or in the water, the team is disqualified if it loses both yellow balls.
  • If the team still has its second yellow ball, the ball may be retrieved and put back into play with a penalty from water or OB.
  • If both yellow balls are lost, the team is out.

Prizes

  • 1st Place — 50% of pot
  • 2nd Place — 30% of pot
  • 3rd Place — 20% of pot
Additional Information: Each club may enter two teams (eight players). Captains should collect entry fees in advance.
